When UK students submitted their prints for the 10th Annual ILFORD PHOTO Student Photography Competition under the theme ‘A Sense of …’ they had little knowledge of what disruption was coming just a couple of months later.
With schools and colleges now closed due to the coronavirus crisis and term seemingly at an abrupt end, we are pleased to be able to look back and reflect on some of the stunning entries we received as well as announce the 2019/20 winner.

We recently had the pleasure of turning the tables on one of the stalwarts of the film photography community when we asked Em if he'd be the first of our interviews in the 'Lockdown Sessions'. We're so glad that he agreed.
What made you set up Emulsive.org and what were your initial plans for it?

As so many of us are in lockdown at the moment, (although I always take my camera with me on my daily walk / bike ride). We thought that #indoors was the perfect theme for this week's #ilfordphoto #fridayfavourites.
It took you a couple of days to warm up, but then you rose to the challenge and shared a fantastic selection of images with us. Thank you.

We knew it was going to a good week for submissions when we set this week's #ilfordphoto #fridayfavourites theme of #plasticcamera. There are so many choices of plastic cameras out there from the affordable entry level single use and the HARMAN reusable to the 3d printed, homemade pinholes and of course a smorgasbord of Holga, Lomo's and other compact cameras to choose from.
Thank you for sharing such a great selection of images on Twitter / Instagram and our online Gallery. These are our favourites.

When we held our first Lockdown Session with Emulsive, we asked him who he'd like to see us interview in future and he suggested the very lovely Aislinn. (AKA The Film Pusher).

I have tons! But let me share my recent favourite, the one that I had printed and hung on my wall. It’s a pinhole image of the Natural History Museum in London. It means a lot to me, as the NHM is a favourite visit ...
We asked for all things #silvergelatin for this week's#ilfordphoto #fridayfavourites. We see so many inventive people out there making beautiful images both in and out of the darkroom and wanted to showcase some of them here.

An object of beauty
I have just been asked to explain why I use film to make many of my images….. well the simple answer is ‘I like the process….I love the total engagement film gives me. Working out how many rolls to take, what size film to take, packing it all up and hoping I haven’t forgotten my light meter.
I love the reaction when I give somebody a print at 12 inches square in an archival sleeve. It’s an object of beauty, its tangible, it’s exciting, its more than a digital print…...
