Toning is an additional process which can be used to change the colour of a print.
Because toners convert the silver of the image into some other material, they can improve the long-term stability of a print. Colour can also be added using dyes.
As well as toning the whole picture, you can achieve particularly striking results in some cases by toning (or colouring) selected areas.
